We snapped these pictures on our way to the incredible Victor Horta house museum over the weekend - it's a good thing they didn't allow photos in the house, or you would be absolutely inundated with Horta pictures right now! I knew going in that I could expect the incredible (some might say obsessive) attention to detail that I've always loved about Art Nouveau buildings, but what I wasn't expecting was how much I would love the colors of the interiors! In particular, the real pièce de résistance was the central staircase, with its warm, cognac-colored wood, blush pink carpet, and incredible pink, mustard, and gold ornamental painting on all the walls - all of my favorites!

On an entirely unrelated note, I was recently interviewed by Smashion.com - if you haven't heard of Smashion before, it's a cool site where you can shop for (or sell, without fees!) new or gently used clothes and accessories from other users - so there are definitely some great deals to be found! You can read the interview here.

Um, I would like to steal everything about this outfit (including the background). I may be stealing this look tomorrow.

  4. You look so chic, as always.  Maybe you should start a second blog for all the architecture nuts.  I'd love to see some Victor Horta.  My travel pictures always end up being 98% buildings.

  13. Ah, the return of euro-chic! Even though I'm devastated you've gone away again, I'm loving how very much you look like you're in your natural habitat in these photos. I love how this is so very on-trend and very, well, bloggerly, but still looks like something I can very much see you and Chris walking around in all day.

  14.  Thanks Santina! I love this necklace, and I think it was like $3. It's hard to beat cheap accessories. :)

  16. Haha, thank you! I felt a little like I was wearing a 'French girl' costume when I wore this (I even put my hair in a French twist!) - and I have to admit, that made me love it all the more.

  17.  Haha, yeah, so far ours are pretty much just outfit pictures, and pictures of buildings - sometimes I get to be in those, very small, for scale. :)

  18. It's pretty incredible, I didn't realize until we went just how prevalent it is. We were constantly turning random street corners and just stumbling upon incredible Art Nouveau houses!

  19. Thanks H! It was pretty awesome, definitely one of those places that's much more engaging in person than in class. :)

  20. Thanks Jill! I'm going to guess it was the steady diet of delicious beer and frites, we must have had just that for dinner 80% of time we were in Belgium. (The other 20% was waffles, obvs.)

  21. I know, the weather in northern Europe is cold compared to what I'm used to in summertime! I never realized how intense the summers are in the States.

  22. Thanks Sara! The Horta house is pretty fascinating, I definitely recommend a visit if you find yourself in Brussels!

  23.  I hope things have warmed up in Belgium a bit since we left! We wound up taking a little unexpected detour to Antwerp on our way north to Amsterdam (Eurolines buses - worst company ever!) and although we didn't have a lot of time there, the city definitely seemed very cool! Hopefully we will get to go back someday soon and do some proper exploring. :)

  24. Aw, thanks Sorcha! Fortunately I had the first half of our trip to get an idea of what I was missing, then got to stop at home briefly and repack my suitcase. I definitely think I did a better packing job the second time around!

  25. Haha, thanks S - just wait, pretty soon you will see me traipsing around Europe in three wrist-watches and a pair of Jeffrey Campbell platforms. :)
