sunglasses - Nasty Gal / necklace - vintage, Park Slope flea market / tote - giveaway at German convention / striped dress - Old Navy / ring - Amsterdam shop / sneakers - Target

Happy 4th of July! Even though we're in Germany at the moment, I couldn't resist putting together this little red, white & blue outfit in honor of the holiday - now if only we could find some fireworks!

Please don't let the sunglasses and bare legs fool you though - it was cold and overcast for the better part of our 4th, and I spent our entire day out (at the zoo!) with my jacket bundled up tightly, shivering and cursing myself for not wearing something warmer. I actually wore tights yesterday, and probably should have again today but I just couldn't stomach the idea of tights on the 4th of July! Fortunately the sun came out and it warmed up a little right at the end of the day, just in time for us to take these photos in a little sculpture park on the way home.

  1. Subtle red, white and blue - fantastic! That necklace is so unusual, very pretty with the red chain.

  2.  Thanks Sorcha - I love this necklace, the red chain is what made me notice it at this tiny little flea market.

happy fourth of july! Loving the outfit! Looks very festive and perfect for the day! Of course a bit harsh for a cold day, but well that's real national pride then!!!

  6.  Thanks Jessica! Yeah, given how much walking we're doing on this trip, I'm doing my best to save my feet and make sneakers look good. :)

  7.  Thank you! Yeah, I definitely got some odd looks from the Germans, all of whom were sensibly dressed in long pants and jackets. Fortunately it finally warmed up today, I was getting worried we wouldn't have a summer at all!

  8.  Well, we didn't find any fireworks, but a delicious dinner of krakauer wursten and heffeweizen sort of made up for it. :)

  11. This is a great look on you! I love what a classic, American-girl look this is -- it's a change for you, since you're usually so european sophisticate, but it works.
