Thank you all for the well-wishes on my birthday, both here and on Twitter, I had a great, fairly low-key day. Chris and I have been scoping out potential neighborhoods all week (we're in a short-term place for now), so we spent most of the day on a long walk all the way up to Williamsburg and back. We decided we're definitely too old and uncool to live there, but we'll still visit for the abundant taco trucks and flea markets. On our way I got an extra-lovely birthday surprise - a job! I hadn't expected to get something so quickly, so I'm absolutely thrilled - and now we can actually start apartment-shopping in earnest. We went out for a double-celebration dinner in Park Slope, then ended the night drinking wine on this lady's fire escape.

    That whistle is AWESOME, and combined with the fox top and aqua skirt, it's just an amazing outfit.  So much personality in a very subdued palette--love it.

    Happy belated and congrats on the new job! Good luck apartment hunting--my fiance and I made the same call about living in Williamsburg and we're super happy with where we ended up (Carroll Gardens).

    Love that skirt. I brought a vintage skirt that is very similar to this, but its a little tight with the vintage sizing :(

    I live in Williamsburg in a decidedly less-hip area than the part around Bedford Ave.  Initially I felt the same way as you, but then I realized most of my neighbors are families who have lived there for 13+ years. Totally depends where you look, of course. Anywho, best of luck in the apartment search, and congrats on the job!

    We are definitely looking pretty closely at Carroll Gardens, it seems like a great mix of all the things we want (good restaurant scene,  good trains, good streetscape, nearby dog park) without being over-the-top expensive. Hopefully we can find something great that won't totally break the bank. :)

     We are actually staying not too far from Stuyvesant Heights right now! We definitely love all the gorgeous houses around here (not to mention that we could actually afford to live in some really lovely buildings), but we're both going to be working in Chelsea so we're probably looking to be a bit closer in. :/

    It's true, Williamsburg definitely has a lot of different neighborhood 'types' within it, so there are definitely parts that we would like a lot. We're trying to stay pretty open-minded while neighborhood shopping - it's all going to come down to what's available at the right time and the right price anyway!
