jean jacket - LOFT, thrifted / necklace - clyde's rebirth / v-neck - Old Navy / friendship bracelet - gift from high school boyfriend / watch - Arkanoplatz flea market, Berlin / pleated skirt - vintage Liz Claiborne, thrifted / clogs - Target
Both this jacket and skirt were scored on an incredibly fruitful thrifting trip with Tania last week. I've worn the jacket nearly every day since, but this pleated skirt felt like the real 'find' of the day. I've been itching for a longer sheer black skirt for a long time, and for just $2.50, this one really fit the bill. The pleated chiffon feels so dreamy and perfectly floaty, I'm afraid these photos really don't do this magic skirt justice. For a day spent birthday shopping with my mom (tomorrow I'll hit the big 2-7), I loved it with high platforms and this amazing wood and brass necklace I recently bought from Merl, and I'm looking forward to pairing it with tights and cozy sweaters as the weather continues to cool off.
And just in case you haven't seen it yet, yesterday Elaine of Clothed Much featured me in her 'Blog Crush' series! Hers was one of the very first style blogs I ever read, so I'm quite flattered. You can read the whole interview here.
I'm a newbie to your blog, but I love it! You dress so cute!

I'm totally smitten with that black skirt! It's absolutely beautiful. Is it weird that my first thought was 'that would make a great skirt for a witch Halloween costume'?
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you! And welcome. :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love it, it's hard to photograph but it moves *so* well. And you're totally right, it would work perfectly for a witch costume, haha! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the necklace! What a find the skirt is! Lovely outfit.
ReplyDeleteSo freakin' cute! The skirt is unbelievable, and what a stunning necklace. Where did you guys go thrifting in DC?
ReplyDeletelove this look! what a find that skirt is! so perfect.
ReplyDeleteThis really is an adorable look! The black midi skirt is absolutely perfect and I am so jealous that you scored something like that thrifting. Wonderful find! Pairing it with the denim jacket and simple accessories make for a polished and chic look. Love it!

still so jealous of this incredible find, and i love the way you've styled it here, esp. with the clogs. it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful skirt for a beautiful price! Looking forward to seeing you style it different ways. :)
ReplyDeleteYou look so cute! :) I especially like your skirt - I've been searching for something like that for awhile. I really need to hit up the thrift stores near me!
ReplyDeleteHappy almost Birthday!!! I hope you have an absolutely wonderful day tomorrow! :)
You took your amazing thrift karma away! ...and now I'm sad. All the same, I love the unexpected proportion of this skirt on you -- it looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteOkay, this seriously makes me want to go thrifting...
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is incredible.
And happy early birthday!
girl, you look just stunning in this! Love! I have been eying that trend and have been a bit afraid to try it, but you make it look so effortless! Great look and congrats on the feature!
ReplyDeleteThat skirt is amazing! Why don't I ever find such wonderful things?
ReplyDeleteThat skirt is fantastic, I've been looking for one like that forever but no luck I'm so jealous you thrifted it!

Great skirt! I am obsessed with pleated skirts and it's the first time I see a black one. Looks great on you and perfect with your jean jacket.
ReplyDeleteI recently picked up a jean jacket, after not having worn one since my high school, working at the Gap Outlet days - but I get nervous about looking like a high schooler and so have been on the lookout for grown-up styling... And this is a fabulous example. So perfect with that skirt!
ReplyDeleteI love your skirt!! It's so pretty, it has pleats and it's sheer - perfect!! And it looks really cute with the shoes too =)
ReplyDeleteGoing to follow you now my lovely =D

That looks like such a great twirling skirt, definitely a great find at $2.50! Thrifting with Tania must be so much fun, she just seems like the nicest person!

Your hair is looking FABULOUS in these pictures!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you scored that skirt for $2.50! I love this outfit, it's simple but refined and the details you added are just perfect. Especially the necklace, it's stunning! Happy early birthday!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! I hope your day today was wonderful! Congratulations on the great interview, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debbi!
ReplyDeleteThank you! We actually went to a few stores in Northern Virginia - this skirt (and my loafers from my last post) came from the Clock Tower Thrift Shop in Falls Church, and the jean jacket came from Unique Thrift out on Gallows Road, which is *ridiculously* huge and definitely worth a visit.
ReplyDeleteThanks Erin, I couldn't believe my luck when I pulled it off the rack. :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks Tania. I always figure if I'm dealing with a hemline of questionable flattery, I should just try it with the highest shoes I have. :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a lucky find - it was actually marked $5 (which I still thought was a steal), but when I got to the register I found out it was actually 50% off!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenn! I suspect there are hundreds of this kind of skirt from the '80s hiding in the back racks of thrift stores everywhere, so you should definitely keep an eye out for yours. :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, shouldn't that mean that there's even more good stuff to be had thrifting in the area, now that I'm not out hogging it all? :)
ReplyDeleteThis length definitely isn't something I've felt confident trying before, but now that I have, I sort of love it - it's so fun and swishy, but less troublesome than a true maxi length.
Haha, thank you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Anja! I have been pretty wary of this length of skirt because of my height, but I bet this style would look lovely on you!
ReplyDeleteHaha, thank you! I definitely recommend patience and persistence when shopping secondhand, and taking the time to really look at everything - lots of times you'll come up with nothing, but it only takes a few gems to make all that careful looking worth it!
ReplyDeleteI definitely got lucky with this one, often I just skip over black clothes while thrifting because I already have so much black in my closet - fortunately the lovely pleating on this skirt really stood out on the rack, otherwise I might have missed it altogether!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alessandra! I am definitely getting more into pleats, I have a lovely pleated dress as well and will be on the lookout for more. :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, I know just what you mean - I had a jean jacket from Old Navy that I wore *constantly* in high school, so it's hard not to feel a little juvenile every time I wear one now. I think this one might become just as much of a staple as my last one though, lately I've been wearing it every day!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks Genny! I'm still practicing my 'wavy' styling and it's taking a little getting used to, but I love getting to skip the blow-dryer in hot weather!
ReplyDeleteThanks Caitlin! I love this necklace too, the wood and brass just seem to go beautifully with everything.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cathey, it was definitely a lovely birthday. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Callie! This is definitely an outfit I can see myself coming back to again and again. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sian, and welcome! I love the sheerness of it too - although I realized halfway through the day that the slit in the back of the lining went up quite a bit farther than I'd realized, whoops!
ReplyDeleteMy schedule was so crazy while I was in DC but I was so glad I got the chance to hang out with Tania, she is even more fun in person than in blog-land. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteAdorable- I love how you paired that skirt & the denim jacket. Really great look!
ReplyDeletei have a similar length hair to yours and have been trying to get wave like that! is your hair naturally wavy? how do you style it?
ReplyDeleteIt is somewhat naturally wavy, so lately I've been doing my best to encourage it. After I wash it, I towel-dry it and just finger-comb a little styling serum through it (not really sure what this stuff is, but I bought it from my hair stylist and it smells nice). Then I put some mousse in and gently scrunch it a bit to get it sort of wavy and piecey. Then I just let it air-dry. I think the key to getting it wavy is not to mess with it too much - definitely no brushing or blow-drying (unless you use a diffuser, which I don't have).
ReplyDeleteI just snagged a maroon chiffon maxi/midi skirt, and I can't wait to style it this fall. I love how you added casual touches like the denim jacket and your fabulous Clyde's Rebirth necklace!
ReplyDeletethanks so much for the tips! i'm going to try and see how it works on my hair.
