I hope you'll forgive me the slightly melancholy tone of this post; in many ways, these photos feel to me like a lament for the summer that's nearly past. While I'm sure the season of heat and humidity is far from well and truly over here on the East Coast, the days of simple dresses, sandals, and long shadows seem to be rapidly disappearing. Today there's very nearly a chill in the air, and with it the anticipation of change. We move to New York this weekend and begin in earnest the search for jobs and apartments, setting out on an entirely new chapter in our lives. While I am excited about these changes (and particularly about seeing the end of suitcase-living on the horizon), I will miss the last nine privileged months of wholly unstructured time.

As the shadows get shorter, you get closer to seeing your true face that lives in your shadow.

Good luck on your new paths!  If you're wearing dresses like that, they'll be lucky!

I've been a blurker of your blog for a while, but I just have to say that your dress is beautiful! And welcome to New York! I live in Manhattan, and fall in NY will definitely make up for the loss of unstructured time, I promise.

Good luck with the move:)  I just came back from NY and am now more than ever inspired to move there.  It's a wonderful place.

As for the outfit, I love it!!  The rainbow colors make me feel that summer isn't truly leaving us so soon!!

Ohmygoodness, what an amazing vintage dress!  Are those little yellow buttons I see going down the side?  Awesome.
Have fun with the move!

Oh my goodness, you look lovely! The dress is so cute, those colors, awesome!!!I do feel a bit the same about summer, but whenever I feel I have said goodbye, it comes back for another couple of days. We still get little encounters, I am sure of it!

I'm also sad about the end of summer. Here in Massachusetts it feels like we barely even had a summer! It was so short! And today, I've been forced to break out a hooded sweatshirt for my grocery store trip. Sad :o(

P.S. I really love this dress on you! I love the different directions of the stripes!

That's a really great dress, I like how you styled it! I too feel sad that summer is passing, but also happy I will be able to unearth all my winter duds. : ) Always a silver lining!!

So that dress? PERFECTION. I've been hunting for a dress like that all summer. And now summer is over, and I'm no closer to a fabulous summer dress. Hmmm...I may have to steal yours.

Good luck with the move/I hope the move went well!

congrats on the move. I totally know what you mean though about hanging on to summer as it slips away. I'm excited by the change of seasons, but at the same time, I have a hard time letting go of sweet summer clothes. I love this dress by the way! So retro and feminine.
