purse - Athens tourist shop / chambray shirt - Banana Republic, thrifted / belt - vintage, thrifted / skirt - altered from a dress, Old Navy / clog sandals - Stockholm tourist shop

This skirt used to be dress; I bought it on clearance years ago because I loved the airy, printed cotton and the fact that it had pockets, but the fit just never worked for me as a dress. It had an always-on-the-verge-of-wardrobe-malfunction surplice bodice and an un-beltable empire waist, and it wasn't long until I found myself folding in the top half and just wearing it as a skirt every time. I unpacked it over the weekend and started wearing it that way on Saturday morning, but by lunchtime I was so fed up with fussing with my improvised skirt that I finally cut the top half off and put in a proper waistband. I can tell I'm going to get a lot more wear out of it now - in fact, I've already worn it three times since chopping it! I even remembered to take the time to photograph the transformation (a rare feat when I get the instant gratification sewing itch!), so I'll be posting a simple dress-to-skirt sewing tutorial later this week.

I saw the title and thought you cut your hair! (Is it weird of me to be more excited about how you cut your hair than how I'm going to cut my own?)
Love the skirt and can't wait for the tutorial! I need all the sewing help I can get.

Haha, I wish it were referring to my hair! I really need to do something about that soon, I'm just such a wimp about getting it cut by someone new. I'll have to get used to it though, as my old stylist moved away. :(
I'm looking forward to posting the skirt tutorial, it's definitely a great way to breath new life into a dress you never wear!

The skirt looks great.  I also thought this was going to be a hair post, but sewing posts are fun too.

Love this look! I want to try pairing a chambray shirt with a printed skirt but I don't own one that would work...either way, you inspire me! Love the cute new shoes! That must've been some great Tourist shop.

I love this combo, the red belt really makes the outfit pop. Speaking of pop, your jeans from last post are awesome.

I had the same dress in several different prints, but never wore them
because the top was to exposed.  Too bad I didn't think of making them
into skirts before I gave them away.  It looks really cute as a skirt.

I like your shoes! It looks like the bleddy expensive Swedish hasbeens that I've got my eyes on! Did you really get it at a tourist shop? I thought tourist shops only sell tacky keychains? They do shoes too?

I have that same dress and I've never liked wearing it for the reasons mentioned above. Can't wait to make mine a skirt using your tutorial! You're right--so much more practical.
