necklace - boutique in Montmartre, Paris / tank - Anthropologie / dress - UO / sandals - Target, thrifted

As simple as this is - a dress, sandals, and a necklace - I think it might be my favorite thing I've worn yet on the blog. I've paired pink and yellow here once before, and I've been so enamored with the combination that it seems to permeate everything I do. It worked its way into my recent blog redesign, my Pinterest is just full of pink and yellow, and my "to try on" pile while thrifting this weekend was so overwhelmingly dominated by these hues that my mom declared them my signature colors. Given how very cheery (and, dare I say it, 'me') I felt wearing this, I'd say she's on to something.

This dress has been a favorite of mine for a few years now, but I've recently been considering refashioning it into a skirt. I love the draped tulip shape, but the neckline has gotten substantially lower over time, and I'm not convinced the somewhat loose empire waist really does my figure any favors. Chris thinks I should leave it alone ("You already have so many skirts!"), but I think it might be more versatile and flattering with a little restyling - what do you guys think?

i'd say refashion it if you want to. always better to have pieces you absolutely adore than ones you fidget with all day.
that said, the dress looks amazing, i want to steal the necklace right off your neck, and i plan to wear mustard and pink tomorrow, if not sooner.

Oooh good question....it is very cute as is....if you think you'd get more use out of it as a skirt + be more comfortable then I'd do that (I think it would look equally awesome too).  Maybe you can wear it with shirts over top to get an idea of what it would be like before you take the scissors to it?

I love the yellow and coral-pink color combination!  I'm not sure what to tell you on the dress.  I see what you're saying about the loose empire waist, but it looks so breezy and summery and a dress and I don't think a skirt would capture the same "feel."  :(  So...I say keep it a dress!

It really is adorable on you, but I agree with the other commenters who say refashion it! You wear slightly above the knee skirts really well, and I personally think you can give that dress a whole new life! I'm sure the easy breezy dress is great in the heat, but something tells me you have more than a few breezy summer dresses hanging out in your closet already! Oh, the color combo is fantastic! It actually made me smile when the blog loaded. Have a great day!

I love it as a dress, but I do think that skirts are more versatile in outfits. And I've never thought to wear mustard and pink -- I love it on you! And those shoes are gorgeous!!

Cute and functional, great for a summer hot summer day! Maybe you could make it into a skirt, but if you if you still like it as-is, why bother? :)

YES! pink and yellow is a favorite of mine as well! as far as the skirt/dress debate - think of which way you would get more use out of it. you can probably pair it with more things as a skirt. dont you have a coral/pinkish skirt from H&M?

also - i love the braided gold sandals!!!

I also really love pink and yellow... or orange and pink.  Both great combinations.

Also, it must be so lovely to be home after some months on the road.  I can't wait to visit home in August!

i love dresses in general...i always find them to be so much easier to just throw on and go than trying to match up a skirt with a top. but maybe that's just me! i really love the mix of pink and yellow here, too...great signature colors to have!

So true - I do like this dress, but I think I'd almost certainly get more wear out of a skirt, so the odds of my regretting refashioning seem pretty slim.

Good idea, Kerry! I might even be able to try wearing it with the top half folded over an elastic waistband, just to make sure I like the fit of the skirt.

Ooh, definitely a fair point - although fortunately I do have a lot of other breezy summery dresses in my closet. :)

Thanks Casey! Yeah, I think I love this combination because it can't help but make me smile too. :)

Skirts definitely feel a bit more versatile to me, especially when it comes to packing for our next bit of traveling. Maybe this one will make it into my suitcase on the next round, I'll have to see how it turns out!

Oh man, I have been so sewing-and-craft-project starved for the last six months that 'why bother' isn't even in my vocabulary any more! Over the last week I have been blowing through a monstrous 'to be mended/altered' pile that hadn't moved in over a year by the time we left!

It's just so irrepressibly happy, no? And I do have a pink, somewhat tulip-shaped skirt, but I found the fabric (sort of a stretch twill) to be awful for traveling because it always needed to be ironed! So I'm looking to make my travel wardrobe a little more jersey-heavy for the next leg of our trip.

And I love these sandals too - they're actually my second pair! - but I wore them all weekend walking around Brooklyn, and now my feet are just wrecked. This pair definitely still needs some breaking in!

Oooh, I love orange and pink as well! For some reason I don't have a lot of orange in my wardrobe, maybe I'll start keeping an eye out for it while thrifting...

It is definitely very nice to be home, we hadn't planned to come back mid-trip, but now I can't imagine not having done so. It's just been so nice to see family and friends (and dog!!), relax a little bit, and not feel like we have to work at everyday activities! We keep marveling over how easy it is to get places and do things when everything is in our own language, it's such a nice break!

I definitely love the easiness of dresses too, especially once it's hot! Still, I love the versatility of separates - I feel like I can still 'discover' new combinations all the time, even with pieces I've had for years. :)
