confessions

compass necklace - vintage, Grand Bazaar in Istanbul / gray v-neck - Target / braided belt - vintage, thrifted / skirt - homemade / espadrilles - thrifted

Confession: While it's not the most inventive outfit I've ever worn, I might have worn this three times in as many days. Once for a thrifting expedition (with flat sandals), once for a low-key day at home, and once for a long morning dog-walk (again with flat sandals). This is numero dos.

Confession: I did not wash my fabric before assembling this skirt - hence the permanent wrinkling in the hem, which no amount of ironing will remove. Always wash your fabric - especially if it's seersucker. Lesson learned.

Confession: I have not told my family about this here blog, as I can't tell if they'll think it is cool or just an incredibly strange and inexplicable hobby. I fear the latter. This adds an entirely new level of weirdness to taking outfit photos, as it feels like we're sneaking around. "Where are you guys off to?" "Oh, uh, nowhere. Just.... out. With the camera. For ten minutes or so."

Confession: I'm posting super late, this week is speeding by me, and I'm grossly behind on replying to comments and emails (To say nothing of reading and commenting on other blogs. My Google Reader has enough starred "Come back to this!" posts to qualify me for an all-digital-media episode of Hoarders.) They say the first step is admitting you have a problem...

Oh, do tell your family about your blog! Though I rarely take photos of myself for mine, my family (and random cousins-in-law) all read it. I think it gives them great happiness to feel in the loop. Besides, you always look great, and in my experience, photographs of a daughter/sister/niece/granddaughter/whatever looking great are pretty high on the list of things-families-like. :)

Love this look...the espadrilles are to die for.  And you should totally tell you family.  I told mine about my blog and they were kind of confused at first (and probably still are) but now they just humor me and are happy for me!

Haha!  I told my sister about my blog and she was so confused and weirded out...."Is that like...a journal that everyone can see??"  My family do not do the internet (I know, is that possible?) so I don't feel self conscious about it.

I love those espadrilles, such a pretty, peachy color!

I love the shoes! The color is perfect. It took a lot of explaining for my parents to understand the blog thing. My mom is very supportive of it and when she is in town she is my go to photographer.

Only my mom, brother, and one of my cousins know about my blog. Not sure why I don't tell everyone else. Really, I don't think they'd find it interesting. Loving the espadrilles by the way! Great thrift find!

Very true. I do worry a bit that they won't quite 'get' the focus on style, I think their idea of a blog is something much more in the journal/diary vein.

Thank you! Yeah, I've probably built it up more to myself than is really necessary, I'm sure they'd at least enjoy checking in every once in a while. :)

Haha, I suspect my parents' reaction would be pretty similar! My mom is already freaked out by the fact that potential employers can look you up on Facebook (although I keep trying to explain that I don't want to work for anyone who thinks my Facebook profile is an accurate representation of my professional demeanor), so I think posting photos of myself every day might make her nervous.

Thanks! I love these shoes, wedges are just about the only heels I can manage to walk in for more than two minutes. I'm such a wimp!

That's so sweet that your mom is up for taking your photos! I suppose that would be one benefit of letting my folks in on this whole blogging thing, I could get my professional photographer dad to take some pictures - I don't know if I could keep a straight blogger face with him behind the lens though! :)

Thanks Elaine! I was so psyched when I thrifted these espadrilles last summer, I'm pretty sure they'd never even been worn!

For a long time, the only people who knew about my blog were my boyfriend/photographer and real-life friend and fellow blogger S. (of Narrowly Tailored).  I've slooowly begun sharing it with a few more friends over the last month or so, and I suspect I'll keep taking those baby steps for a little while longer.

Thanks Claire!

I love those espadrilles -- to die for!! And I like the simplicity of this outfit as well, it's too cute.

I've told everyone about my blog, and they've all been super supportive of it, even if they don't particularly understand or read it!

I think this is a great outfit to wear three times.  I wear my favourite outfits all the time too, my blog is really not a very accurate representation of how I dress sometimes!  I really love the colour of those wonderful espadrilles too!

I haven't told my parents about the blog yet either.  My one sister knows and has played photographer, my other sister knows and is nice about it but think I'm weird or shallow or both.  I know my mom would enjoy seeing all my photos, but I do worry that she'll think I should be a)spending more time studying and b) spending less money.  So until work is well underway on my thesis, it's staying a secret!

Thanks Izabela! And I'm so glad to hear people have been supportive of your blogging, even if it isn't quite their thing. I am probably being self-conscious about it for no reason.

Yeah, I definitely worry that my mom would see the whole thing as an enormous exercise in vanity, or the glorification of conspicuous consumption, which, while certainly part of the whole blogging beast, are (I hope) not the overwhelming focus of blogging for me. Plus I shudder to think what sort of comments my family might leave. :)

I didn't tell my family about my blog for over a year, for the exact same reason.  When they finally did find out about it, however, they were so supportive!  Now my mom and sister read everyday, and will call and give me a hard time if I miss a day, haha.

Love the outfit - a tee and skirt tends to be my summer fallback outfit, too!

emily said...

Haha, oh no, I didn't even think about that - if I tell my mom, she will totally be on my case if I don't update for a few days! :)
