Happy Yellow Day! If I could only wear one outfit for the entire rest of the summer, this would probably be it. This cheerful shade of sunny, marigold-y yellow is my absolute favorite color, so I couldn't have been more pleased when yellow was chosen as this month's Everybody Everywear theme. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to debut these awesome yellow shorts that I thrifted in Massachusetts last month and subsequently hemmed - paired with this dreamy silk blouse and a few favorite pieces of gold jewelry, this was a perfect outfit for a sunny trip to the awesome flea markets of Mitte and Prenzlauerberg on Sunday.

My sunny shorts did have one drawback though - bees like them too. A curious yellowjacket flew right up the back and stung me on the leg! It had been a while since I'd been stung, and man, I'd forgotten how much that can hurt! Fortunately I'm not allergic, so aside from some awkward public cursing and flailing (having a bee up your shorts can lead to some highly embarrassing gestures), I haven't suffered any real ill effects.

A few of you have asked me for a packing tips post over the last few months, and your requests have finally been answered - I have a guest post over on sartoriography today that's all about how I pack! You can read it here, and then be sure to head over to Everybody Everywear to check out how other bloggers are wearing my favorite color!

I love scalloped shorts - did you make the scallops yourself? Pretty fabulous, I have to say.

Thank you! I did do the scalloping myself - I sort of combined techniques from two tutorials, one from Megan Nielsen's Design Diary and one from the Hetterson Journal.

Love this so so much! Those shorts are fantastic!

I love, love, love these shorts.  I've been wanted to do the whole scalloped edge redo thing, but haven't found any potential candidates yet.  Yours are perfect though.

Yikes, at least you looked fantastic while flailing around?

I love the necklace, such a nice way to do the retro marigold/chocolate brown/gold color combo!

this second pair of those shorts is just as cute as the pastel pink ones. Love!! Still can't believe how lucky you were to find all of those! Also a great take on the EBEW of course :)
I am so sorry about that bee sting, I am on the allergic side and can imagine the hurt!

I can see why you wanted to make lurrrrrve to this outfit. I would too. But I'd wait until you weren't wearing it.
Fantastic look, as always. Sorry about the bees!

I'm sorry you had to suffer for fashion! I adore those shorts and I'm more impressed after seeing that you did, in fact, scallop them yourself.  You are rocking the entire look, really.

I'm so sorry about the sting, but I love this look on you! I love the way you're rocking shorts in this heat -- it's positively inspirational!

Those shorts are fabulous! The scallops are amazing! The whole outfit looks so fresh and cool. And even a bee would agree (sorry to hear you got stung).

Love these photos so much! I'm dying for a Vespa so that's part of it, but the yellow scalloped shorts are the icing on the cake.

Taylor said...

This is adorable! My dress today was sort of a similar shade.  Can I just say that where you are with the Vespa behind you!  I wish I could transport myself right there to that moment.  Without the bee though, please!

That color of yellow is perfect! I'm totally jealous. Also, because those seem like the ideal summer shorts I'm in need of.  Oh, and the combination of scallops and the flowy shirt is lovely!

Thanks Hayley! I love yours too, that dress is so happy!

the other emily said...

Thanks Ariana! I was really happy with the way they came out, now I want to scallop everything. :)

the other emily said...

Thanks Kara - I definitely hit the mom-shorts motherload while I was in MA! Just have to find those frumpy thrift stores. :)

the other emily said...

Haha, well thank you! Yeah, I have a certain love affair with this kind of '70s kitchen decor color scheme, haha.

the other emily said...

Thanks Kelsey!

the other emily said...

Thanks Danielle! You should definitely give this DIY a try sometime, it's a fun afternoon project and the results are so fun to wear!

the other emily said...

Thanks Anja - the pink ones were the first ones I tried scalloping, and I definitely learned a lot on that first time around! These were a lot easier to do and came out a little better too.

the other emily said...

Haha, thanks dear - and thank you for your excellent tutorial, I would have had no clue what I was doing otherwise!

the other emily said...

Aw, thank you Stephanie!

the other emily said...

Well thank you! This blouse was a fringe benefit of going thrifting with my mom when I was last home - I told her I was on the lookout for silk blouses, and when we got home she presented me with this one she hadn't been wearing much!

the other emily said...

Haha, well, for the sake of our neighbors, I'm glad you can't steal my outfit. :)

And I'm so glad I got to participate in this round of EBEW! It's been a little while for me... now I'm already looking forward to this week's special Thrift edition!

the other emily said...

Haha, thank you! I hope so too - I admit I've gotten a little bee paranoid since then, I actually ran inside in a total panic yesterday because there was a bee checking out our balcony!

the other emily said...

Haha, thank you my dear. That's good advice. :) There's just something about a slightly dressy blouse that gets me every time.

the other emily said...

Haha, yeah - meanwhile I'm sure the bee is all, "What izz thiz girl'z leg doing up in my sunflower?? WTF?"

the other emily said...

Hahaha, thanks Bekah!

the other emily said...

Thank you! At least this sting wasn't nearly as bad as my last time being stung (over ten years ago) - a yellowjacket flew up the back of my shirt and got me six times before I could yank my shirt off! Now that was painful - and embarrassing!

the other emily said...

Thanks Sarah! I'll admit, after finishing these I was pretty tempted to just start scalloping everything in my wardrobe... :)

the other emily said...

Haha, I suspect the 'hot' days we've been having in Berlin are nothing compared to home - I don't know if I could have gotten away with this one if we were in Virginia,  just wearing sleeves would have induced heatstroke!

the other emily said...

Thanks Anjela, and welcome! Thanks for the kind words about my blog design, it took me a ton of trial and errors so it's nice to know you like it. :)

the other emily said...

Thank you! I was definitely happy with how these shorts turned out, and that I got the perfect opportunity to wear them for EBEW!

the other emily said...

Haha, well thank you!

the other emily said...

Thank you!

the other emily said...

Thanks! I'd love a Vespa too - just need to get over my fear of riding one first though! :)

the other emily said...

Thanks Vanessa!

the other emily said...

Thanks Charlotte! Definitely check out the shorts rack in your local thrift store, you'd be surprised how many gems may be hiding in there. :)

the other emily said...

Thanks, I am loving scallops this summer too!

the other emily said...

Thank you! These are the second pair of scalloped shorts I've done, and they were definitely a lot easier once I had some practice. :)

the other emily said...

Thanks Meagan!

the other emily said...

Thanks Taylor! I love this shade of yellow, it's absolutely my favorite color - even if it is attractive to bees!

MissRockwell said...

Lol at the public cursing and flailing gesture. That's hilarious! At least your shorts are kick a$$ though. Would love to see a tutorial if you don't already have one posted.
