ridiculous earrings - vintage shop in Copenhagen / cashmere cardigan - Cynthia Rowley via Marshall's / black striped tee - UO / jeggings - Target / flats - Zara
I am definitely going a bit stir-crazy from having to wear pants every day. We took a ton of photos yesterday, and these are the only ones where I'm not making an overwhelming cranky-face! I have a creeping suspicion that my 30x30 is going to end up sort of lopsided - after having to wear nothing but pants in the beginning, I'll probably wind up wearing nothing but skirts in the end.
I still tried to make the best of yet another pants day - this drapey cardigan always feels a little like a fancy housecoat, so I decided to just go with that yesterday, poofing my bun up as much as possible and throwing on my most over-the-top vintage earrings for a sort of '60s hostess look. By the end of the day, I actually wound up wearing this cardigan sort of half wrapped and belted, which I think I liked even better and will probably repeat in another remix later on.
I'm off to get packing, then maybe take a last sunset walk in the Medina. We've been trying to soak up as much sunshine as we can - tomorrow we say goodbye to Morocco!
There's a smile! Trying to make the best of these durn pants...

I looooove the long earrings. The volume and fun details in the top half of your outfit totally balance and compliment the simpler bottom half. This is just one of my absolute favorites, I gotta say. :)
those earrings are SO good!
oh, and happy travels!
This is so lovely. I really like the simplicity and totally get the 60s hostess vibe.
Sorry to hear you are bidding farewell to such a beautiful place!!

The color of the earrings is beautiful! I love drapey cardigans as well, cozy + stylish = favorite!
love the Cardigan, so pretty!!
I'm been stalking around your blog for a few days now, enjoying your outfits and photos and the parallels between our lives. Hi from yet another Emily, and a traveller, and a single suitcaser! I'll be back!
Hi Emily.
I love your blog. I've been dropping in occasionally for the last few weeks and honestly it's like a mini vacation (with style!) from the midatlantic, where's it's grey and dreary, with occasional breaks for snow/rain/sleet.
Anyway, given that you're dogged by your pants requirement, I thought it a particularly good time to mention that you've given me some fashion fortitude. Mainly regarding the skinnies. Like you, I have a nice curvy figure, and until I happened on "the other emily", I'd been afraid to wear such form-fitting ANYTHING on what I've always viewed as my figure weakness (even though I love clothes and as any good blog-follower knows, they're not just for New York folk anymore).
Thanks for giving me the confidence to attempt it myself. Your pants may be a style inhibitor in the Medina, but never fear, you're a inspiration regardless.
Keep up the good work.
Hello! I was browsing through your post archive and I noticed that you mentioned you had to leave your beloved pet in the states on your whirlwind travels, and I'm wondering how you managed to take care of all of that. I am entering a Master's program in Northern Ireland for one year come September and am very uncertain and upset about leaving my cat at home. Any thoughts, advice, commiseration? :)
P.S. I could just curl up and go to sleep in a cardigan like that! I love it.
oh man, i love so many things about this outfit! the shape of that sweater is so freakin cute and looks SO comfy! and those earrings are KILLER. so awesome.
gah, i cant wait to see where you're off to next!
I love your shoes, I have a similar pair and I wear them all the time!! Great style, awesome blog =)
Thanks Emma!
This sweater is totally like a fashion-Snuggie. It's like wearing fancy jammies everywhere :)
Hi Kristin! We were actually lucky enough to be able to leave our dog with my parents - they've got a big backyard and a dog of their own who gets along great with ours, so it was a pretty easy fit. If it's at all possible for you to leave your cat with a friend or a family member, that's probably the easiest thing and will give you the most peace of mind - and you can always pester them to put your furry friend on skype :)
Another option might actually be to bring your cat with you - I had some friends who were planning a move to London a little while ago, and were planning to bring their kitten. I don't know all of the details, but I know there's a six month quarantine period (keep them indoors, no contact with other cats) and a few more frequent visits to the vet for paperwork - in any case, it might be worth looking into since you're going to be away for a whole year.
Good luck!
Wow, thank you so much for this sweet comment - I'm so flattered that you've felt inspired by my blog to feel more confident taking some style risks! Honestly, this is such a sweet thing to say and really made my day.
One thing I've really been getting out of blogging has been the opportunity to really see myself through other people's eyes, and time and again, I am completely surprised. There have been so many days when I felt like I didn't look so hot, my outfit was unflattering, pictures pretty dreadful - but incredibly, no one notices the flaws I see unless I point them out. So many of my own body insecurities are just completely self-imposed, and I think the things we find fault with in our selves are rarely the features others notice first.
So I think you should absolutely give skinnies a shot and rock your curvy figure - I'll bet that what you've seen as a weakness might just as easily be your strength. :)
Oh, I'm so glad you left this comment because I have totally been doing the *exact* same thing on your blog! I was actually just thinking of it tonight - I remember reading that you hadn't had much luck finding many charity shops in London, and I stumbled on two in East Finchley tonight! I'm definitely going to check them out over the next few days, so I'll let you know if they're worth the trip.
Thanks, it's definitely one of my favorites. :)
I love them too! I really need to find more once the 30x30 is over, otherwise I'm going to wear through the elbows on this one.
Ha, thanks. I'm glad it made as much sense outside my head as inside. Now I just need a floor length gold brocade dress to swan about in....
Aren't these earrings just awesomely bananas? I bought them at a vintage store in Copenhagen while I was in furniture school, then neglected them for three or four years because I was afraid they were too over-the-top. I was pretty psyched to rediscover them last year though, it was like getting free jewelry from past-Emily. :)
Thanks Dotty! They're really the best ever for dancing, but I'll settle for wearing them around the house for now.
Oops, I just found your response in my junk folder ; p I´ve been on the road for a few days! I´d be very interested to know how the charity shops turned out... ; D
Emily! I'm so sorry to have taken approximately forever to get back to you on this! Charity shops turned out to be a pretty mixed bag - there are two on the High Road in East Finchley, one that's an animal rescue volunteer-run shop and an All Aboard. The latter had a decent number of nice things (the blue dress and red necklace that have appeared on my blog were both purchase there), but the former wasn't really worth the trip - sort of messy and disorganized and most of the clothes seemed like newer, worn out things. Neither one is particularly cheap as thrifts go, but if you find yourself in the area, I'd say All Aboard is worth a look.
