I am a pretty serious planner. I am a perfectionist, Type A, Virgo/Libra cusp - so I make lists. The day that Kendi announced this round of the 30for30, I started a list of what items I wanted to remix, then a series of sub-lists to plan out the different outfits I could make with each piece. Then I started making polyvore sets of all the possible remixes, so I could easily visualize all my options. This is how much I plan just to put on clothes.
Which is why it's shocking that this outfit came together totally spontaneously, and I absolutely love it. I've grown a little weary of wearing pants every day since we've gotten to Morocco, so I thought a lazy Saturday at home would be a great time to break out something a little more 'immodest.' This skirt was a late addition to my 30 (hello, #28!), from the same surprise trip to Zara that resulted in my new jacket, so I hadn't planned any outfits around it yet. I wanted to stick with a pretty low-key, earthy color palette to keep the spotlight on the rusty orange, and topped it off with a wider belt 'borrowed' from Chris and my vintage necklace from the queen of earth-tones herself, Christina. It felt great to get a little more 'dressed up,' even if only for eating grilled cheese and catching up on Gossip Girl.
And seriously, how cute are those scalloped pockets??

I am always amazed at how you use such simple pieces to put together an outfit that is completely original. Love the orange skirt- excited to see you mix it more!
thats serious organisation! I used to outfit plan for 6th form to start with, then gave up after a while.

omg! you ARE a planner! i just kinda sorta thought of a few outfits and am hoping for the best....
this skirt is a great addition to your mix!
sweet outfit. I especially like the cardigan and the skirt! Cute new buy!!
Adore the earthy color palette! Really love this look. :)
i love this outfit! i just found your blog and it is already one of my favorites. i really like your style and as a travel geek it's fun to live vicariously through you :)
Super cute- you look great. I love all the solid colors, but they come together in a really great way.
I love everything about this look! The color of the skirt and pocket ruffles are to die for!
You are seriously a layering virtuoso. How will I ever learn your ways? This outfit is so wonderful--I just love that skirt so much!
And silly Moroccans. But, I suppose respectful dress is necessary!
I love these color pairings and that gorgeous necklace! I need to scour Etsy for some great finds like that! S.
This is a great outfit and it seems like your spontaneity is a great addition for putting together you outfits! Embrace the unplanned! =)
Thank you Courtney, that is so kind of you to say!
I feel like my combinations have gotten so much more interesting since I started keeping an inspiration folder on my laptop, it's been a great way to get ideas for new ways to remix the pieces I already own.
Admittedly, I am kind of a crazy person. I also tend to use this kind of list-making as a way of entertaining myself during odd spots of free time.
I have to say, I will be sad to leave Morocco's gorgeously warm weather, but I am just dying to have my (somewhat self-imposed) ban on short skirts lifted so I can wear this sucker out! I never knew this rusty color would go with abso-frickin-lutely everything I own!
Thanks Anja! I'll definitely be wearing this combo again once the 30x30 is over...
Can you believe I used to be put-off by earthtones? What was I thinking??
Thanks marvi, and welcome! To be honest, I am still sort of in disbelief that I get to take this incredible trip, and I'm so glad to be able to share it here. :)
Thank you!
When I saw these pockets, I immediately thought of all the super-cute scalloped hem shorts I've been seeing - for me, the pocket detail seems like a much more accessible way to wear the trend, and one that hopefully won't look dated once the trend has passed.
Haha, thanks! I have to admit, much as I love real summer weather, I love the transitional seasons the most because I get to wear so many more layers!
I totally lucked out with this necklace - I happened to see it on Christina's blog while I was at work, and I immediately whipped out my iphone to surreptitiously check if it was for sale yet on her etsy. As luck would have it, she had just put up the listing - I think I feverishly clicked the "buy now" button before even seeing the price! (Fortunately for me, it cost far less than I would have been willing to pay for it.)
I'm definitely hoping to have more happy accidents like this one in my 30x30 :)
I think this is my favorite outfit of yours yet. The colors and the necklace are just fantastic!
